Lipstick is a cosmetic used to add color and glitter to your lips. From the ancient Greece, people have darkened, painted and adorned their lips with dyes, pigments, plant roots, pencils and rouges. Lipstick began in the 19th century. By 1880's, carmine dye, an extract of ground-up insect, was applied to the lips using brush. In the early 1900's a form of carmine was infused into an oil and wax base, creating a colored lip aintment that looked more natural than carmine dye. In the beginning, lipstick was not yet a lip stick. The lip color was sold in paper tubes witch made it impossible to carry around. Around 1915, lipstick started to be sold in metal containers, with various push-up tubes. In the 1930's the Max Factor realized the first lip gloss. Lipstick is made out of many waxes, oils, pigments, and emollients. The wax used for the shape and ease of applications. There is also carnauba wax, an exudate from the pores of Brazilian wax, palm tree leaves, and condeilla wax, coming from the candeilla plants. That is made by placing the plants in boiling water mixed with sulfuric acid that skims off the wax that goes to the surface. The oils and fats are from olive oils, mineral oil, castor oil, cocoa butter, lanolin, and petroleum. The castor oil is makes a strong, shiny film when it dries up. There are some moisturizers like vitamin E, aloe vera, collagn, amino acid, and sun screen are put in lipstick. That kept the lips soft, moisturized and protect.
